The Final Word by Helen Roush
Print

In 2019, we reported on 109 closures and cutbacks in the pulp and paper industry. As of today, there have been 94 closures and cutbacks that we've reported on for 2020, a substantially higher rate (58.5% increase) than in 2019.

Most of the closures and cut backs for 2020 were for mills that produced newsprint, uncoated freesheet paper or sawmills. In 2019, the majority of closures and cutbacks were for mills in similar categories.
