CHILDERSBURG, Ala. (From news reports) - Resolute Forest Products has recognized employees of the Coosa Pines Mill at Childersburg for their safe work performance of more than 250,000 safe work hours. The mill achieved this milestone on Oct. 4, 2020, following 141 continuous safe workdays.

Through Resolute's Board of Directors Safety Award program, and in recognition of this safety achievement, the mill earned $5,000 to distribute to non-profit organizations in the community.

"The Weogufka Center for Arts, Entertainment and Education was selected as the recipient of this award to support the work of their campus facilities and provide services for the communities of Coosa County," stated Pat Hogg, General Manager of the mill.

Gay Adams, President of the Weogufka Center for Arts, Entertainment and Education added, "The Center was established as a non-profit agency in 2009 after the school was closed due to county consolidation. Many volunteers have worked countless hours to repair, restore, and maintain the campus and surrounding buildings. We have grown into a thriving community center, and we are proud to offer services to the citizens of our rural area."

Today, the campus facility accommodates many community purposessuch as local voting, offices, meeting space, areas for personal gatherings, exercise and indoor basketball.

Organizations housed at this facility include HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters); Neighborhood Watch Organization; the annual Mule and Farm Day Arts and Crafts Festival; music festivals and community theater; as well as multiple community displays.

Hogg added, "Reaching 250,000 safe work hours is a great achievement for the employees of the Coosa Pines mill. I am proud to recognize this accomplishment and the Weogufka Center for Arts, Entertainment and Education with a check for$5,000 on behalf of our employees. Since 2017, we havecontributed more than $50,000 to community programs and organizations thanks to our employees' exemplary safety performance."

According to Adams, "Due to COVID, we have not been able to have many public events. One of the historic buildings suffered major roof damage, and this donation comes at a time of great need. I assure you these funds will certainly be used wisely."

"This donation is heart-felt and greatly appreciated. Thank you, Resolute, and congratulations to the Coosa Pines employees upon your outstanding achievement," added Adams.
