Paper Excellence Announces Corporate Knights Best 50 Win for Catalyst

CANADA (News release) -- Paper Excellence Canada announced that Catalyst Paper Corporation (wholly owned by Paper Excellence) has been voted amongst Canada's Best 50 corporate citizens by Corporate Knights. This is the thirteenth time that Catalyst Paper, which operates pulp and paper facilities in Crofton, Port Alberni, and Powell River, British Columbia, has achieved the Best 50 Award with Corporate Knights.

The Best 50 Award is judged using 21 key performance indicators that relate to the organization's raw resource use, emissions profile, innovation, women in key positions, safety performance, and percentage of revenue from clean sources. Paper Excellence's VP of Environment, Health and Safety, Graham Kissack, said "We're extremely proud to be part of this group of leading Canadian companies demonstrating that sustainable business practices can be both profitable while offering long term stability and protection of our ecosystems."

In 2019, Catalyst Paper achieved a 74% reduction of its greenhouse gas emissions relative to 1990whileusinganenergybasketmadeupofover90% renewables. 42% of the organization's solid waste is beneficially reused or recycled while over 22% of its electricity comes from self- generated green power. Catalyst Paper's products are certified to numerous independent sustainable forestry standards including the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).
