Voith Pluralis IF Refiner Fillings Improve Runability
Comment Print

Graz, Austria 05 December 2013 -- Thanks to the new Voith Pluralis IF refiner fillings for the refining of recycled fibers, the strength properties of the fiber pulp can be improved and the tensile strength of the wet web is increased.

This was also true for the refining application for PM 4 of LEIPA Georg Leinfelder GmbH paper mill in Schwedt, Germany. Replacing a standard refiner filling with the newly developed Pluralis IF in the TwinFlo refiner helped to improve strength development, while freeness increase remained the same, and the availability of the paper machine was increased. The next step is to use Pluralis IF also in the second refiner line.

Pluralis IF is part of the Voith Pluralis Line and was developed for the special requirements in refining recycled fibers. Due to adapted geometries of the bars and grooves, the shortening of the fiber is reduced. This results in higher strength properties of the refined furnish.

The PM 4 in Schwedt annually produces 360,000 metric tons of LWC paper per year from 100% recycled fibers at a production speed of up to 1,800 m/min in a basis weight range of 51 to 70 g/m². The quality is equal to that of primary fiber products with regard to all relevant properties. LEIPA ultraMag papers are environmentally certified and bear the "Blue Angel" ecolabel.
