The service that private equity provides to our industry and others is that they do those hard things I mentioned in the opening editorial of this issue. They have the advantage of ownership without stockholders and the strength of the mandate of total ownership. I discussed this in the latest issue of the Thompson Private Letter as pertains to Koch Industries’ acquisition of Georgia-Pacific. From all indications they, Koch, are doing a great job of redirecting a very large ship in the sea of commerce.
