SÃO PAULO & NEW YORK (News release) -- Suzano, the world's largest hardwood pulp producer, was awarded the ESG Model Enterprise Award at the 2022 International Green Zero-Carbon Festival held in Beijing on August 30, 2022. This was awarded by the festival's organising committee including some of China's most distinguished research institutions, consultancies, and media outlets.

The International Green Zero Carbon Festival in Beijing gathers over 1,000 delegates working in policy, business, academia, and the media, alongside hundreds of companies exhibiting their sustainability goals and plans for reaching a net zero economy, as part of China's own 2060 carbon neutrality ambitions.

The awards programme has been designed to recognise companies with outstanding contributions in the fields of green energy, carbon reduction, technology innovation, and protection of the natural environment. Furthermore, leading figures at the event spotlighted companies that demonstrated particular emphasis on the need for Chinese and international enterprises to take a collaborative approach to green innovation.

Pablo Machado, Global Executive Director - China Business at Suzano, said:

"At Suzano, our business strategy counts on the very pertinent concept of innovability: innovation at the service of sustainability. This means that our investments, our R&D initiatives, our processes and products always incorporate the combination of these dimensions into the core of what we do. As a company that is already climate positive and bringing new technology to market that can replace fossil-based inputs with bio-based materials, we are delighted to have our efforts recognised in China with this ESG Model Enterprise Award."

Suzano's efforts to tackle the climate crisis include removing 40 million tons of carbon from the atmosphere between 2020 and 2025 through its farms and conservation areas, and to reduce its own operational greenhouse gas emission intensity by 15% by 2030. The company has already made significant progress towards meeting these targets.
