Stora Enso Barcelona Labour Dispute

Helsinki, Finland 23 March 2013 -- According to trade union Unió Sindical Obrera de Catalunya (USOC), on 21 March, the company and the workers found a compromise in the dispute over wage cuts at the mill.

Wages will be cut by an average of 10% and for now, the company will not cut any more jobs. Moreover, wage levels will be frozen for 2013 and 2014. In 2015 and 2016, pay will be in line with the national tariff agreement.

Stora Enso's workforce had been on strike regularly since January and had stopped production at the mill many times. According to USOC, there were eleven days of strike and two mediations with the regional government.

The Barcelona mill employs 250 persons and has a capacity of 170,000 tpy of GD and GT board.
