Production at Cartiera Ciacci Down After Fire
Print

Roma, Italy 11 May 2016 -- Recycled containerboard production has been standing still since 4 May. Downtime likely to last for several more days.

Recycled containerboard production at Cartiera Ciacci is at a standstill. The responsible authorities of the Acquaviva municipality of San Marino reported that a fire broke out at the mill in Gualdicciolo on the evening of 4 May, destroying parts of the paper machine. The fire was extinguished within just over an hour but the fire fighters remained on location throughout the night to cool the machine.

The company has not yet made an official statement on the cause of the fire or the scale of the damage. Information from company circles is pointing towards damage in the dryer section, owing to which production might be interrupted for a couple of weeks.

Cartiera Ciacci operates one paper machine with a trimmed web width of 2.6 m and an operating speed of 900 m/min. The company puts the production at little over 100,000 tpy. The mill mainly produces the Italian recycled containerboard grades of medium and testliner 4 in basis weights of 100-160 g/m².
