A resident of Tucker, Georgia, Chuck earned bachelor's and master's degrees and a doctorate in mass communications. His experience spans media ranging from a small-town weekly newspaper, to radio broadcasting, to an editorial position with a leading pulp and paper industry magazine, and to assisting in Paperitalo's continuing development of Internet communications for the industry.

Jim Thompson, Managing Partner of Paperitalo Publications, LLC, said, "Our entire staff is saddened by the loss of Chuck. He has been a valuable participant in our business for many years. Personally, I have known Chuck since 1989 when he interviewed me at Jaakko Poyry. We enjoyed having Chuck along on the Papermakers' Mission Trip to Guatemala in 2016. He was a fine human being and will be sorely missed."

He was born in Meridian, Mississippi on July 1, 1932, and proudly served in the Marine Corp and later in the Naval Reserves. He was ordained Presbyterian minister at churches in Tennessee and Georgia. He also served as Vice President of Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. He was a devoted and loving husband and father.

Chuck was preceded in death by his wife "the love of his life," Janell Dalton Swann. He is survived by his children, Leslie Swann, Amy Waterman and husband Mark Waterman, Rebecca Swann, and Martha Evans, and his grandchildren Ethan Waterman, Stefan Waterman, Lauren Evans, Edward Dalton Evans, Leah Swann and Daniel Swann.

A memorial service was held at North Decatur Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Georgia, with private interment at The Georgia National Cemetery.
