SKOWHEGAN, Maine (From news reports) -- A person suffered multiple non-life-threatening injuries Thursday morning when falling through a roof covering a machine inside the Sappi Fine Paper mill in Skowhegan, officials said.

The injury followed an incident earlier this month in which a Skowhegan man working for a contractor died suddenly at the mill in Skowhegan.

Chief Ronnie Rodriguez of the Skowhegan Fire Department said emergency workers were called Thursday morning to the Sappi Somerset Mill to assist with a technical rescue.

Rodriguez said rescuers were directed to a building that had a piece of equipment with a structure surrounding it to maintain heat and corrugated metal on top. A person was on top of the roof structure and had fallen about 10 feet through the covering.

Rodriguez said he believed the injured person was a subcontractor. The person was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.

Rodriguez also said he did not have further details on the victim's condition or why the person was on top of the structure.

In a Facebook post, the Fire Department reported Thursday's technical rescue at Sappi was among the types of incidents for which its crews have trained over the past few weeks.

In the recent incident involving a death, George Cutten, 64, was working at the mill for Hermon-based Sullivan & Merritt Inc., a heavy industrial construction company, when he collapsed Feb. 6.

Sappi officials said in a statement that Cutten "had a personal medical condition that caused him to pass away," and efforts to revive him were undertaken for about a half-hour.
