New Markets Beckon for Those With Vision
Comment Print
If you have read my article in Nip Impression for this week, I am talking about provincial thinking in the developed world's pulp and paper industry. There has no doubt been a lot of whining and wishing for the good old days.

Brazil's Suzano is leading the way in what I believe is the correct, and positive, direction. From Mozambique comes a report on 26 Oct 2010 that Suzano has been there and is exploring setting up a complete vertically integrated pulp and paper enterprise, from trees to finished products. The national director of Mozambican Industry, Sidone dos Santos, has reported Suzano representatives have visited Zambezia, Nampula and Cabo Delgado provinces looking at potential sites.

Good for Suzano. There are many, many markets still left in the world that are much like that of Mozambique. Progressive companies will enter and thrive in these markets. Dinosaurs of the industry will be too weak willed to seize these opportunities.

Companies with a real vision in our industry will follow Suzano's example. The balance will flounder and deteriorate.
