Mutares to Take Over Sonoco's Schweighouse Mill

Hartsville, South Carolina, USA 03 May 2016 -- Sonoco-Alcore may have found a buyer for its Schweighouse coreboard mill in France. The German Federal Cartel Office reports that holding company Mutares is interested in buying it.

According to a statement issued by the German Federal Cartel Office, German industrial holding company Mutares is considering the takeover of Sonoco Paper France and its Schweighouse coreboard mill in eastern France. Sonoco Paper France is part of the Sonoco subsidiary Sonoco-Alcore.

Sonoco had announced its intention to sell the site in October last year. The Schweighouse mill has two paper machines with an annual capacity of approximately 95,000 t of coreboard. More details about the possible transaction were not yet available as this issue went to press.

In May 2015, Mutares acquired Metsä Board's German subsidiary Metsä Board Zanders which operated the Gohrsmühle mill with a capacity of 50,000 tpy of cast coated and label papers.
