Mativ Holdings, Inc. Confirms Recent Data breach Affected Employee Information
Print

On October 3, 2022, Mativ Holdings, Inc. filed an official notice of a data breach with the Massachusetts Attorney General's office after the company experienced a cyberattack that compromised sensitive employee information contained on its computer network. According to Mativ, the breach resulted in the names, dates of birth, medical information, financial account numbers, and Social Security numbers of certain employee's being leaked. Mativ also sent out data breach letters to those who were impacted by the event, informing them of the incident and what they can do to protect themselves from identity theft and other frauds.

Employees of Mativ (formerly known as Schweitzer-Mauduit International, Inc.), who receive a data breach letter from the company should be sure to protect themselves from the increased risks of identity theft and fraud they now face. Falling victim to identity theft can severely disrupt your life--and cost you thousands of dollars out-of-pocket. And while you cannot prevent an employer from leaking your information, you can take steps to reduce the risk of fraud in the wake of a breach.

More Information on the Mativ Holdings Data Breach

Most of the information regarding the Mativ Holdings breach comes from the company's filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts. According to the company's official filing with the state AG's office, Mativ Holdings recently learned that an unauthorized party was able to gain access to portions of the company's network during June and July of 2022.

In response, Mativ launched a series of investigations to determine the nature and scope of the incident, as well as whether it affected the security of any consumer information on the company's servers. The investigation confirmed that the files which were accessible to the unauthorized party contained sensitive information belonging to some "employees of the legacy Schweitzer-Mauduit International, Inc. ("SWM") and Scapa Group, Ltd. ("Scapa") companies within the Mativ Holdings, Inc. group."

Upon discovering that sensitive consumer data was made available to an unauthorized party, Mativ Holdings began to review the affected files to determine what information was compromised and which employees were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, date of birth, medical information, financial account information, and Social Security number.

On October 3, 2022, Mativ Holdings sent out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident.
