ALBERTA (From news reports) -- On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 2010hrs, the Edson Fire Department responded to a fire incident at the Weyerhaeuser mill located in Edson. Mill staff, including Weyerhaeuser's Emergency Response Team (ERT), were quick to act and initiated suppression efforts.

Edson Fire Department crews arrived promptly and worked in close coordination with the ERT to bring the fire under control. Thanks to the swift and collaborative response, the fire was extinguished quickly, minimizing damage and ensuring the safety of all personnel. The Edson Fire Department responded with a full complement of resources, including 2 Engines, 3 Command Units, 1 Rescue Unit, 1 Tender, and 1 Support Unit, with a total staffing of 29 personnel.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our mutual aid partners, Yellowhead County, and the Town of Hinton, for their critical support in providing aerial units during the response. Their assistance was instrumental in ensuring a safe and effective operation.

We also acknowledge and appreciate the support of our other partners, including Fortis, ATCO, and Associated Ambulance, RCMP and the Town of Edson CPOs who contributed to the overall safety and coordination of the incident response. This incident highlights the strength of inter-agency cooperation and the importance of preparedness.
