Cham Paper Stops Sale of Italian Mills
Print

Cham, Switzerland 11 Nov 2013 -- Swiss Cham Paper Group will not sell its Italian paper mills in Carmignano and Condino to Austrian Delfort Group as announced in July. The cancellation of the sale is a result of unsuccessful negotiations between Delfort Group and employee representatives in Carmignano regarding future employee contract conditions.

The two Italian mills will remain under the ownership of Cham Paper Group, the company said in a press release. Thanks to restructuring measures carried out over the last two years, the company considers itself well-positioned in the market. The two sites have a combined capacity of 130,000 tpy of specialty paper including flexible packaging paper, coated label paper and base paper for labels and silicone release paper for graphic applications.

The company also reported that Marcello di Giacomo, general manager of the two Italian mills who joined Cham Paper Group a year ago, will leave the company. His duties were assumed by the mill managers in Carmignano and Condino, Gianluca Scaglioni and Gerold Zuegg, and the group’s executive management.

Cham Paper Group’s Swiss operations will remain unaffected by the aborted sale of the two Italian mills. As of this year the focus of the group’s Swiss operations is on finishing (coating technology) base paper from third-party suppliers as well as developing, launching and marketing premium product lines and services.
