Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA 18 October 2007 – Universal Forest Products, Inc. (Nasdaq: UFPI) today announced a semiannual dividend of USD 0.06 per share, payable 15 December 2007, to shareholders of record on 01 December 2007. The dividend, approved by the board of directors at their 17 October 2007 meeting, represents an increase over the semiannual dividend of USD 0.055 per share paid at this time last year. The company has increased its dividend in each of the past 13 years.

“While we’re operating in some of the most challenging times and markets in recent memory, we’re maintaining our profitability and growing our opportunity, and we’re honored to share our success with those who have invested in us,” said William G. Currie, executive chairman. “Our investors believe in the strength of our business model, our strategies, and our people, and we’re pleased to pay a dividend to express our thanks for their confidence in us. We intend to make them happy with their investment.”

The company this week reported third quarter 2007 results that included an increase in net sales, despite the severe decline of the housing market. In addition, Universal reported double-digit sales increases in three of its four markets for the third quarter, and gained share in each of its markets. A decline in earnings for the quarter was attributed almost entirely to housing.

Universal Forest Products markets, manufactures, and engineers wood and wood-alternative products for D-I-Y/retail home centers, structural lumber products for the manufactured housing industry, engineered wood components for the site-built construction market, and specialty packaging for various industries. The company also provides framing services for the site-built sector and recently announced its foray into the concrete forming market. Universal reported sales of nearly USD 2.66 billion in 2006. The company has approximately 8000 employees who work out of nearly 100 locations throughout North America. For more information, visit http://www.ufpi.com, or call 888-Buy-UFPI.
