Tokyo, Japan 26 May 2014 -- Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (President: Yoshio Haga) constructed a new cellulose powder* production facility in the Hokkaido Yufutsu Mill (Tomakomai-shi, Hokkaido).

The production line commenced commercial operation today.

Nippon Paper Industries is the foremost domestic producer of cellulose powder, supplying the product , ranging from the food and health food sector to the industrial sector. Completed at a cost of 1.6 billion yen, this new facility aims to expand the business domain that is expected to increase strongly in demand, to boost profitability while ensuring a stable supply of products. The commencement of this line brings the total number of the company's production lines to four - two in the Hokkaido Mill and two in the Gotsu Mill (Gotsu-shi, Shimane Prefecture) - which will also ensure its advantageous position in terms of business continuity in the event of an emergency.

This facility will play a role in strengthening the non-paper business of Nippon Paper Industries, as we continue to evolve as a comprehensive biomass company.

*Cellulose powder: Made from carefully selected pulp, which is hydrolized, purified, dried, and pulverized into fine powder. Cellulose is the main constituent of the cell walls of plants and fiber. It is a stable and very safe substance.
