Comment Print

Istanbul, Turkey 11 Apr 2013 -- Recycled cartonboard manufacturer Kartonsan has commissioned Andritz to upgrade one of the two board machines at the Izmit mill. Additional capacity will meet growing demand in Turkey, says Kartonsan.

Turkey's Kartonsan Karton Sanay ve Ticaret will upgrade BM 2 at the Izmit mill in order to increase its capacity for white lined chipboard (WLC). BM 2 has a trim width of 3,600 mm and produces 100,000 tpy of duplex and triplex board. Following modernisation work, production capacity is to rise by 60,000 t to 160,000 tpy. The start-up is scheduled for the beginning of 2014, says Kartonsan. The company puts total investment cost for the extensive upgrade at €35m.

According to Andritz, Kartonsan will upgrade BM 2 and the related stock preparation systems. The order placed by Kartonsan includes among other things modifications to the headbox as well as to the press, dryer and coating sections. The deinking and the OCC stock preparation lines will be also modernised, says Andritz.

In 2008, Andritz had already upgraded BM 1 and related stock preparation systems at Kartonsan's Izmit mill, raising production capacity of the board machine by 25,000 t to 75,000 tpy of white-lined chipboard.
