Worker killed in industrial accident at Green Bay Packaging construction site

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (From news reports) -- Green Bay police are saying little about an industrial accident that killed a 52-year-old man at Green Bay Packaging on June 12.

It happened just before 9 a.m. and involved a vehicle accident, police said.

They wouldn't identify the property where it happened, but Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed it is investigating Jamar Co., a subcontractor for a construction site at Green Bay Packaging in the 1600 block of North Quincy Street.

Miron Construction Co. Inc. and Green Bay Packaging both put out statements reporting the man worked for one of the subcontractors and extending sympathies to his family, friends and co-workers.

The man was dead when police arrived. Officers were still on the scene, as was an OSHA investigator.

Green Bay Packaging's new paperboard mill project has required the work of roughly 600 subcontractors. In 2018, the company announced plans for the $500 million mill after state, Brown County and city of Green Bay officials committed more than $80 million in incentives to the project. Work began in August 2018.

In December, company officials said the project remained on track for completion in 2021.
