Voith Paper Expands its Portfolio

Heidenheim, Germany 05 June 2013 -- Japanese general heavy equipment manufacturer IHI Corporation and Voith Paper founded Voith IHI EcoSolutions GmbH & Co. KG. The joint venture, in which both Voith and IHI hold an interest of 50 percent each, is being technically managed by Voith Paper and will be headquartered in Heidenheim, Germany.

The joint venture provides complete thermal fluidized bed power plants especially for the paper industry. They facilitate an effective and environmentally friendly combustion of solid waste materials, which also generates electrical energy and steam.

Stationary and circulating fluidized bed technologies are part of the joint venture. The big advantage of these combustion technologies is that only small amounts of emissions are generated by the process of energy production. Fluidized bed power plants thus facilitate adherence to the strictest guidelines for environmental protection.

Moreover, this type of power plant is extremely efficient in operation, while the waste materials that come about in paper production can be optimally utilized for thermal power generation.

With the new joint venture, Voith Paper is now further expanding its expertise in combustion technologies and is offering its customers attractive, value-enhancing recycling systems with the use of fluidized bed technology. Voith already has a solid offer in this market with its CTC (controlled thermal conversion) technology. The use of CTC means that the paper sludge that accumulates in the preparation of recovered paper can be converted into reactive minerals. In addition, Voith IHI EcoSolutions now supports paper producers with completely integrated combustion solutions that are tested and further developed in IHI’s own development center.

Voith Paper and IHI have jointly been providing solutions to the industry for more than 30 years. The IHI Corporation is a well-known supplier of thermal power plants in the east Asian and southeast Asian region and is at the cutting edge of modern technology for energy production. It has completed a wide range of successful projects for power plants of various types and sizes.

IHI Corporation is a global company with around 26,000 employees and a turnover of approx. € 10 billion. Founded in 1853 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, the company manufactures machines and systems for various industrial sectors.

Voith Paper is a division of the Voith Group and the leading partner to and pioneer in the paper industry. Through constant innovations, Voith Paper is optimizing the paper manufacturing process, focusing on developing resource-saving products to reduce the use of energy, water, and fibers.
