Suzano plans $2.7 billion pulp mill, CEO says

SAO PAULO (From news reports) - Brazilian wood pulp producer Suzano SA plans to invest $2.7 billion to build a new mill in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Chief Executive Walter Schalka told newspaper Valor Econômico in an interview.

"Today, we take only fiber and energy from the tree. We are looking at the forest base to extract more value," the CEO was quoted as saying in Valor.

Suzano's press office confirmed the contents of the interview with Valor.

With annual production of 11 million tonnes following a merger with former rival Fibria, the company is already the world's largest eucalyptus pulp producer.

The new mill would add 2.2 million tonnes of annual pulp capacity to Suzano's operations, Valor reported.
