Södra ends short-time working at Orrefors facility

SWEDEN (News release) -- At the beginning of April, Södra announced that it would be introducing short-time working at the Orrefors sawmill in light of the fall in demand related to the ongoing pandemic. "We have identified a number of new business opportunities that will safeguard production and have therefore decided to return to a normal rate of production as of the week beginning 11 May," says Jörgen Lindquist, Business Area President of Södra Wood.

Short-time working was also introduced at the sawmills in Mönsterås and Hamina in Finland at the same time.

"We reduced production at these sawmills due to the decline in demand in the UK. We can now see that the UK is slowly opening up again, but we will wait before returning to normal production at these two facilities. Thanks to the option of short-time working, we have the readiness to move in pace with the market and to quickly increase production again," said Jörgen Lindquist.
