Pöyry Receives Contract for Cogeneration Plant in Wisconsin


Vantaa, Finland, 06 April 2010 -- We Energies, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA,  has awarded Pöyry the engineering contract for a EUR 185 million capital project for a new 50 MW biomass cogeneration plant to be constructed at the Domtar paper mill facility in Rothschild, Wisconsin. The value of Pöyry's assignment is estimated at approximately EUR 6.5 million. Construction for the new facility is planned to start in the spring of 2011, with the biomass cogeneration facility in operation in late 2013. Pöyry's contract also includes an option for construction supervision, procurement, and commissioning services. 

The new cogeneration facility will be designed to provide steam to the Domtar paper mill and is capable of providing a nominal power generation of 50 MW. The plant will use wood, wood waste, and wood shavings to produce electricity and will be designed with the best available control technology to meet strict emission standards. 

Pöyry's assignment includes complete detail engineering. The biomass power plant will use the latest boiler and turbine technology to aid We Energies in meeting their renewable energy commitment.
