Nueva Papelera de Besaya Closes

Cantabria, Spain, 10 Aug 2011 -- Spanish uncoated woodfree paper manufacturer Nueva Papelera de Besaya will not reopen. The government of Cantabria decided to definitely shut down the 80,000 tons/year paper mill due to high investment costs and risks. The options for a production restart at Nueva Papelera de Besaya, as analyzed by the government, reportedly would have required investments ranging from EUR 20 million to EUR 42.5 million, salaries and wages excluded.

Operations at Nueva papelera de Besaya have been idle since 18 February when a large part of the site’s roof collapsed, damaging the mill’s only paper machine.
