NOREXECO Hosted Its First North American Focused Webinar - "Understanding Financial Instruments For North American Buyers and Sellers of Pulp"

News release

On June 28th, NOREXECO, the world's only international regulated market for trading pulp and paper derivatives, explained to North American buyers and sellers of pulp how they could mitigate pricing risk for market pulp using exchange traded contracts.

FASTMARKETS senior economist Patrick Cavanagh shared his analysis of the most recent developments in the global pulp and paper market, including his thoughts on global demand growth, supply-chain disruptions and unexpected downtime. He highlighted how the Shanghai pulp futures market has helped fuel the recent bull market and pointed out that this dynamic has now shifted.

SIMPLEX's founder, Gurinder Duggal provided participants with an introduction to strategies for mitigating price risk. He shared his reflections on the cost breakdown of the typical paper mill and questioned why pulp represents the highest input cost yet remains the least hedged commodity.

NOREXECO's portfolio manager, Carl Tonsberg, discussed the concept of financially settled futures and explained how trading pulp contracts on a fully regulated exchange creates benefits for all market participants. NOREXECO brings together producers, buyers, banks, brokers and traders. He explained how this diversity of participants creates trading opportunities, promotes price discovery and allows for efficient transfer of risk at the lowest possible cost.
