MeadWestvaco Breaks Ground on New Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia

Richmond, Virginia, USA, 21 May 2007 -- MeadWestvaco Corporation (NYSE: MWV) today broke ground at the site of the company's future headquarters in downtown Richmond. The global packaging company relocated its headquarters from Stamford, Connecticut, in July 2006 and is currently operating out of leased office space in Henrico County. The new headquarters will be located at 501 South 5th Street and is scheduled to be completed in mid-2009.

"Locating our headquarters at the Foundry Park site allows us to contribute to the exciting revitalization of the city's downtown riverfront," said John A. Luke, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer. "We are thrilled to be a part of Richmond's vision for the future."

The nine-story building will feature an open interior environment to promote collaboration throughout the facility. Employees will have access to an on-site full service cafeteria, advanced conference and training facilities, covered parking with premier parking spaces available for fuel efficient vehicles and carpooling, and a fitness center.

MeadWestvaco is pursuing sustainability driven construction and operational efficiencies and certifications throughout the interior and exterior design, including the use of energy and water, and employee work environments.

"The considerations we are making in the construction of our new home in Richmond reflect the ideals that are important to MeadWestvaco as a global corporate citizen and a member of this community," Luke said.
