Memphis, Tennessee, USA, 13 December 2006 - International Paper today announced plans to add fluff pulp capability to its Riegelwood, North Carolina, pulp and paper mill. The mill expects to begin fluff pulp production in the second half of 2007. Upon completion of the project, the mill will be able to produce 500,000 tons annually of fluff and/or market pulp, as customers' needs require.

In addition to pulp, the mill will continue to make coated board, which is used to make end products such as paper cups and plates, greeting cards, magazine covers, calendars, lottery tickets, and fast food packaging.

Fluff pulp is an absorbent fiber product made primarily from southern pine It is used by consumer products companies in the production of diapers, adult incontinence products, and feminine care products.
