Georgia-Pacific closing facility in Green Bay; 55 jobs cut

GREEN BAY, Wisc. (From news reports) -- Georgia-Pacific is closing its converting facility at 1100 W. Mason St. in Green Bay, resulting in the loss of 55 jobs.
"After careful review of the current state of the facility, the company determined that its napkin and towel business should be produced at other GP facilities, including other facilities in Green Bay," the company wrote in a letter to state workforce development officials.
In the letter, GP says it offered all 55 employees positions at other locations in the area. Twenty-seven people accepted jobs; the remaining 28 chose not to.
The company said it plans to lay off those employees between Dec. 26 and Jan. 9.
