Montreal, Quebec, Canada, 05 December 2006 -- /PRNewswire/ -- Boralex Inc. (TSX-BLX) announces the acquisition of a wood-residue-fired power station from the Wheelabrator Sherman Energy Company. The power station has an installed capacity of 18 MW and is located in Stacyville, Maine, in the United States.

This transaction offers to Boralex many alternative operating strategies. Boralex is pursuing the evaluation of its options, which include maintaining the power station's operations, assuming the market conditions are favorable. Otherwise, the power station's activities could be interrupted for an undetermined period. Details to this effect will be communicated later. The purchase price, which remains confidential, was paid from the corporation's treasury funds.

Boralex focuses on four types of power generation: hydroelectric power, thermal or cogeneration power from natural gas or wood residue, and wind power. These are all fields where Boralex has developed proven expertise centered on renewable energy. Boralex employs about 277 workers and owns 20 power stations in Quebec, the United States, and France, with an installed capacity of 315 MW. In addition, Boralex holds a 23% interest in Boralex Power Income Fund which owns 10 power stations in Quebec and the United States, with an installed capacity of close to 190 MW. Management of the Fund's assets is provided by Boralex.
