Boise Inc. Louisiana Mill Resumes Production Following Hurricane Gustav

Deridder, Louisiana, USA, 03 September 2008 -- /PRNewswire/ -- Boise Inc. (NYSE:BZ) announced today that operations affected by Hurricane Gustav are expected to return to full production within the next 24 hours. The company's containerboard and newsprint operations in DeRidder, Louisiana, were curtailed in advance of the storm.

"Our curtailment allowed adequate time for employees to evacuate safely from the storm and to ensure an orderly shutdown of our facility," said Robert Strenge, senior vice president, Manufacturing. "No employees were injured in the storm, and the facility sustained no damage. The mill is environmentally stable and experienced no upsets during the storm."

The company's containerboard and newsprint operations in DeRidder have an annual capacity of more than 1 million tons. Downtime at the mill is expected to reduce production by approximately 10,000 tons, including 3500 tons of newsprint and 6500 tons of linerboard. Operations and maintenance personnel are working diligently to resume normal operations.

"The lessons learned from Hurricane Rita in 2005 served this facility well," Strenge said. "Our employees did an excellent job of preparing for Hurricane Gustav to protect people and assets."
