Helsinki, Finland, 29 June 2007 -– UPM will modernize the newsprint production line at its Chapelle Darblay mill in France by investing EUR 15 million to improve product quality. The modernization will encompass the mill's existing deinking plant and paper machine 6.

The rebuilt line is scheduled to start in January 2008. After the investment, the annual production capacity of the line will be 250,000 metric tons.

"With this investment we will increase the efficiency of the production line and improve the quality of our standard newsprint to correspond to the highest quality requirements of our customers," said Armin Schmidt, project manager.

UPM's Chapelle Darblay paper mill is located in Grand-Couronne in northern France. The mill employs 440 people and operates two paper machines with a total annual production capacity of 350,000 metric tons of newsprint. Chapelle Darblay's paper production is based on 100% recycled fiber.
