The Final Word by Jim Thompson

The economy continues to be a problem, both here in the United States and elsewhere. This was brought home to me recently when I was out walking our dog. We live in a typical U.S. subdivision, nothing fancy, typical of those built in the 1990s. Houses roughly 2500-3500 square feet (280-380 square meters). On one of the streets we walk regularly, someone's furniture had been set out in the street. That is what happens here when you are evicted for nonpayment -- your furniture is set out in the street by the authorities. I would never have dreamed I would live to see the day that would happen in our own neighborhood.
