The Final Word by Jim Thompson

Getting in touch with your emailness, part 2

A decade ago we marveled at the growth of the Internet. The Internet and its related technologies are on a tear again. I recently read in Forbes magazine that content growth on Youtube is five times as fast as content production and distribution on traditional electronic media (radio and television). Stated another way, every 60 days Youtube gains as much content as radio and TV distribute every year worldwide.

This has serious implications if you want to distribute a message or if you produce traditional communications systems (printing and writing paper). We are fast reaching the point where printing and writing paper is to the Internet as carving on a stone is to paper. This affects us all. Hopefully we will figure out how to exploit these changing conditions rather than bemoan the loss of the “good old days.”
