SCA’s Graphic Paper Mill in Laakirchen Increases Recovered Paper Use With New Grade

Stockholm, Sweden 13 June 2008 -- SCA’s graphic paper mill in Laakirchen has launched a new paper grade, Grapho Verde, with 50% recovered fiber and high deinked content, in response to increased environmental awareness.

“As a result of the favorable demand for this paper and our positive experiences of using a high proportion of recovered paper, we now need to increase our capacity for deinked pulp,” said Mark Lunabba, mill manager at SCA Laakirchen in Austria.

The Laakirchen facility is investing EUR 10 million to increase the percentage of recovered fiber in its products. The aim is to reduce the use of wood for pulp and reduce energy consumption, and thus the carbon dioxide emissions, without compromising the high quality of the print results.

GraphoVerde is an uncoated paper used for printing magazines, catalogues, and supplements.
