Resolute Reopens Newsprint Mill

Montreal, Quebec 02 May 2013 -- Resolute Forest Products has decided to restart its facility in Gatineau, Quebec, producing newsprint, according to Ottawa Business Journal.

The mill reopening is made possible thanks to a new labour agreement, the operation of just one machine and a new co-generation power plant slated to begin operation later this year.

Resolute Forest Products has recently completed a major realignment of its paper mill network, and the move to reopen the Gatineau mill is said to offset the recent machine closure at its Calhoun, Tennessee, mill.

According to chief executive Richard Garneau the newsprint production is a growing market, and represents today 47 per cent of sales.
