Klabin Closes for Maintenance Updates

Sao Paulo, Brazil, South 05 June 2013 -- Between 11 and 20 June, the unit Otacílio Costa (SC) Klabin hold its Annual General Shutdown, obligatory procedure which consists in interrupting the production of paper and aims to ensure that all maintenance required for the proper functioning of the plant are made with quality and safety. This is a common action in the field of pulp and paper and held annually in units of the company.

During these 10 days, about 50 contractors and 1,400 temporary employees will be involved in the General Shutdown. Among the main activities are planned inspection of boilers, digesters, generation systems and power distribution and control of the production process. The number of temporary workers demand logistics and infrastructure that include transportation, accommodations and meals, and other items that move and stimulate the economy of the city of Costa Otacílio and region. To this are added other benefits such as taxes generated for the municipality and the extra motion of hotels, bars, restaurants and shops, as well as support services to the residence of workers in the city.

During the days of stop, change in odor and noise from the plant - especially on days 11 and 12, beginning Parade, and on days 19 and 20 resumption of operations of equipment - can be perceived by the community. Importantly, these changes do not cause damage to human health nor the environment.
