Braviken Paper Mill Back in Production After Fire

Norrkoping, Sweden, 20 May 2008 -- Production at Holmen’s Braviken paper mill outside Norrköping will be restarted this week after last week’s fire.

The fire, which broke out in the bark store and adjacent chip stacks and silos, was extremely difficult to extinguish, and caused production throughout the mill to halt. The pulp lines and the three paper machines were not directly affected by the fire, but an interruption to the supply of fresh water, steam, and chips made it necessary to stop production. The offices and stocks were not damaged by the fire. No personal injuries were reported apart from one person who suffered mild smoke inhalation.

An assessment is being made of the extent of the damage, which will be covered by the Group’s insurance.
