Heidenheim, Germany, 20 June 2008 -- Stora Enso, the world's largest paper and cardboard producer, placed an order with Voith to modernize the PM 11 at Kvarnsveden, Swedend, with Voith components. The PM 11 produces newsprint from thermomechanical pulp in a basis weight range between 38 and 49 g/m². At a speed of 1600 m/min and a paper web width of 8700 mm at the Pope reel, 270,000 tons of paper have been produced every year.

The target of the rebuild project is an increased production by higher availability of the machine, which is achieved by a reduction of the losses during the reel-spool change and a safe and quick transfer.

The modernization includes components of the EcoChange CA reel-spool changing system, and threading solutions with TailBlade and the Prevo products.

During a small rebuild at the reel-up system in December 2007, brushes were installed that are pressed against the paper roll when a parent roll is decelerated. Thus, broke at the outside layers could be reduced by 90% to just a small number of layers.

Voith's EcoChange CA reel-spool changing system will be installed in the existing pope reel of the PM 11 to improve the changing efficiency and reduce changing losses.

The TailBlade provides ropeless threading into the double-tier dryer section. Blown air is used to transport the threading tail from dryer to dryer. The main components for threading the paper tail through the hard-nip calender consist of four PrevoThread C threading belts.

With this modernisation, the PM 11 receives a considerable potential regarding production increase and reliability.
